Night 20

The way that light hits the road.. Helsinginkatu.

I love the rain - and walking in the rain - but never before realised it'll ruin my camera..
well, I take it as a challenge to find places where I can safely shoot rainy nights!
This one was taken under a bridge.

I'll also have to start using all of my equipmnet's potential, such us white balance adjustment..
I'm still so used to having yellow night pics I tend to forget I don't have to.
Practice, o practice. I don't think I could ever be perfect, but they say practice is what could take my somewhere  nearby..

I went to this ending party of Riina Hänninen's War Against Control- exhibition at Kalasatama's Container square. This is her container.
Some great bands there, too; Kuolema, Throat, Creepy Crawlie and Night On Earth.

Night 16

Stone sculpture in front of my local gun shop on Sturenkatu.
It has a plate in it which tells what this is about but I never remember to read it.
I like it for some reason. Maybe it's because it looks so out of place, or because it's in front of a gun shop.

Night 15

Tonight I went to see Black Magic Six play their new album at Vanhan Kuppila.
They're my fucking personal twin Jesuses. Great stuff. Check them out if not familiar yet.

Night 14

City center shot over Töölönlahti.
I had hard time deciding whether I want a horizontal shot without the reeds or this one. I ended up with this because I liked the "city squeezed between the earth and the sky"- effect too much.

Night 11

I went to Kaivopuisto and took  a bit over 70 pics.. it was really hard to choose which one I like the most, there are 3 or 4 really good ones.
 I ended up with this, because I really like the colours, sky, shadows on the sidewalk and the tip of St. Henrik's Cathedral.

I'm too tired to look for anything more interesting tonight. I'll have to start getting a bit further from my neighbourhood to find something new.

I promise I'll do that, this is getting boring.

Night 8

This was a curiously European scene in the middle of ugly 70's houses at Porvoonkatu.
Had to post-crop out a car of it, though, people started standing in windows so I left before I got the perfect shot.. It's the first pic of this series I've done any editing at all.

Something a bit different. Tried to take a pompous pic of a cool old car, but it turned out to be boring.. so here are some parked cars that look like they're just randomly piled at Kalliolanrinne.

 So here's the first nightshot with it: The memorial statue at Työläisäidin puisto (Working mother's park).

Well, this wasn't the first time I ignored her advice.

Night 3

Pile of advertisement papers waiting to be loaded at Läntinen Brahenkatu (taken about 2 a.m.).
There were these fellers of African origin packing them. I've often seen them delivering those ads at night, but now I know where they do the sorting :)
I actually thought I would've taken pic of them doing their job, but being a bit on the shy side decided street view will do... shame, really, should've asked.

Night 2

I'm starting to figure out advantages of this project!

Tonight I spent an hour walking in this rocky park between Linnanmäki (amusement park) and Sturenkatu, where I've never been before, though it's really close. Amazing atmosphere there, and some crazy beautiful views over Töölönlahti - this is the best picture I got and believe me when I say it's an insult to the real thing.

And only people there were two young couples and an elderly gentleman.

365 Nights Of Helsinki

Welcome.

This is the beginning of an ambitious - and possibly hopeless - photography project:
to gain inspiration and creative thinking I'm aiming to document nights of Helsinki, Finland for a year from now. One photo for each night.

The idea came from this great article, but since I already take self portraits way too much, and am greatly attracted to silent, empty streets of nocturnal city, well.. I made my own version.

As suggested in original text, at first my pics may be dull. My goal however is to elaborate them by learning to think even more creative and, hopefully at some point, updating my equipment a bit...

Though being my personal project, I wish as many people as possible would enjoy the result!
