Night 51

Big garbage dumpster.
It's a common sight in Kallio these days, there seems to be lots of renovation going on. People also get rid of their old stuff while it's easy and free of charge, and sometimes you can pick really cool objects if you're fast enough.

Night 50

To celebrate the 50th Night of Helsinki, I have a special treat for you: not one, not two, but four photos!

It's a serie of four stone faces I noticed the other night in a rock formation at Josafatinkatu.

Here you go:

Night 48

"The people living in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned."
(Matthew 4:16)

Former library for the blind at Eläintarhankatu 7. The text on the wall says "Light for the blind".
I think it's used as a kindergarten now.

Night 47

I had a nice long walk today in Linnunlaulu - right on the other side of the railroad tracks to last night's location - and liked it there so much I took my bike and went there again at night.

This picture has many of my favourite elements: railroad, tall rocks, old wooden house and the cathedral in the background. Taken from a bridge, so don't worry, I wasn't hanging over the cliff!

Some Leftover shots again in Facebook.

sunnuntai 25. syyskuuta 2011

Night 46

I walked around following the railroad tracks and found myself behind Helsinki Diakonia College.
Cool old buildings.

Some additional photos will once again be added to Facebook Page - which, by the way, is an open page and can be viewed without registration!

Night 45

So here's a shot of MoRkObOt from last night. I like the feeling of this picture, and how the two bass guitarists played the whole gig opposing each other.
I'll post Leftover pics to Facebook page but it might take some time choose which ones and to load them.

Meanwhile, please check out yesterdays bands if not familiar yet:
Fleshpress, MoRkObOt and Ufomammut.

Some delay

I went to see some heavy metal bands tonight - and I mean Moving Tectonic Plates- heavy; Fleshpress, Morkobot, and Ufomammut.

I took 533 photos of them, so it'll take some time to sort them out and choose The Shot for tonight and I'm too tired to do it now.
So be patient, please.. I'll reward you with plenty of cool extra shots from the gigs.

Yours,
  364NOH.

Night 44

Gate at Läntinen Brahenkatu.

I've been watching it for a few weeks every time I walk past and I somehow like it a lot.

torstai 22. syyskuuta 2011

Night 43

A play pony. Located in the same playground as Night 12.

You can also see the hobo at the gate back there, he came in probably to find a place to sleep. He asked me why I was taking photos so late and what the place was. Then he wished me good night and went away to a small storage building.

Night 42

I went to old wooden Vallila and found this really high rock there. Great view.
I've walked past it many times, but never really realized how big it was.

Once again, here's an old wooden house, a big tree and some sky. I just like this stuff, and I think this still has different mood than previous ones.

Some leftover photos loaded to Facebook page again

Night 41

There I was, feeling crappy and all, and thought to myself: what would make me feel better?

There's nothing better than seeing a photo of yourself smoking crack heroin!

Disclaimer-ish part:
- Shot at the storage space of the tattoo studio I work in
- I don't do drugs, ANY drugs, nor do I appreciate anyone else doing them. That's tin foil from takeaway kebab, piece of tupe-shaped silver and a lighter.
- It made me feel better.

Night 40

Well, the monochrome week is over, but this one just looked so dramatic without colours.

I went to this small park between Helsinginkatu and Alppikatu and got a few great shots. This was ultimately my favourite, but I'll post other shots I like to Facebook page's Leftover album.

Night 39 - Monochrome week #7

This one from old train depot at Pasila ends the monochrome week.
Shot from Traverssikuja.

There are a few other shots in Facebook both in colour and monochrome - they had such cool colours.

Night 38 - Monochrome week #6

I've been watching these tram wires for the whole week and now I thought I'd finally take pics of them.

perjantai 16. syyskuuta 2011

Night 37 - Monochrome week #5

Hooded Justice... window reflection of some random feller in tram 3B.

Tonight's special: lots of other shots in Facebook

torstai 15. syyskuuta 2011

Night 36 - Monochrome week #4

Ateneum art museum, shot from Mikonkatu.
Its collection includes the most important pieces of Finnish art, such as many pieces of Gallen-Kallela's Kalevala stuff and Hugo Simberg's original "Garden of Death", which I have tattooed on my back.

tiistai 13. syyskuuta 2011

Night 34 - Monochrome week #2

Fredrikinkatu / Kamppi. Taken almost at the same spot where the couple on the left stands in Night 10.

Reason I hang much around there is that when I go to movies with my friend, my tram back home leaves at the stop you see in this picture and his bus leaves from the terminal inside Kamppi shopping center.

Night 33 - Monochrome week #1

So, I decided to have a monochrome week for a change.
I know, I just treated you fellers with Imatra-trilogy, but that's just how cool a dude I am!

Anyway, shooting monochrome at night might get tricky, so it's more like a challenge for myself. To learn new stuff.

Also, I forgot my only memory card to Imatra, so I had to use my old pocket camera as a backup for tonight.
Gotta buy me another one tomorrow, it's good to have two anyway.

sunnuntai 11. syyskuuta 2011

Night 32 - Imatra Special Edition

Tonight it was a really hard choice between the most famous view in Imatra and beautiful composition of rusty autumn leaves.
Well, I chickened. But it was just so I can say I grew up in an Evil Disneyland!

The autumn shot and a couple of others will be published in Facebook page's album Leftover.

lauantai 10. syyskuuta 2011

Night 31 - Imatra Special Edition

Went to an elementary school reunion to a cottage at lake Saimaa.

Tales From The Thousand Lakes...

Night 30 - Imatra Special Edition

To celebrate 30th Night of my project (I reckon this is the first month down now) I'll post a few nights of Imatra!

..well, that was utterly anticlimatic..

Anyway, here you are:

The moon behind a spruce behind my parent's house. Feel free to refer to Kalevala.

torstai 8. syyskuuta 2011

Night 29

Tonight there was a Finnish Championship fireworks competition show.
I went to the same place where Night 2 was taken, the rocks between Linnanmäki, Sturenkatu and railroad and took about 60 photos, this wasn't technically the best by far but certainly most apocalyptic!

I'll load some good shots to the Facebook Page in a separate album.

keskiviikko 7. syyskuuta 2011

Night 28

Bus speeding on Sturenkatu.
Played some with slow shutter speeds and cars' lights.
The rain was really beautiful, too.

tiistai 6. syyskuuta 2011

Night 27

Kirstinkuja.

There's a Worker housing museum in that wooden house.

And I love big trees and street lamps.

maanantai 5. syyskuuta 2011

Night 26

Siltasaarenkatu.
Went to an opening of a photography exhibition at the bar on the left.
Go check it out if possible, it's Mari Hokkanen at Om'pu.

The one on the frontpage of the link is my favourite, stunning beauty, yet creepy as hell.

sunnuntai 4. syyskuuta 2011

Night 25

I like this. From my backyard at Hermanni.

The red glowing things over the lamp aren't reflection of red lights but bunches of rowan berries, they look really delicious this time of the year.

perjantai 2. syyskuuta 2011

Night 23

Malminkatu (Kamppi)
There's a cool old house with a dome that can be seen from the other side, but I didn't find it on this side.. so here's a street view.

torstai 1. syyskuuta 2011

Night 22

Taken from the end of Kaarlenkatu to the direction of Helsinginkatu.
I actually took about million pics to the other direction (over Kaarlenkuja to Fleminginkatu) but this looked better.
I'll post a couple of the others to Facebook Page's Leftover album.
